I am sorry that school has been closed over the last two days and hope that parents and families understand the serious nature of the decisions that have been made. On both days, I have been determined to keep school open and staff have attempted to travel to school. However, on both days, the driving conditions on all routes for all staff have been far too dangerous. On Wednesday, my car span off the road and today I had to be towed back home. Other staff have had similar treacherous journeys. I did not want either pupils or staff in dangerous positions.
Due to conditions forecast and warnings, we were in no other position than to close. The safety of pupils, parents and staff has to remain at the forefront of any decisions made. We do understand the disruption this decision causes to families across the locality and on behalf of the Governors and myself we apologise for this.
This evening staff have assessed their own routes to work and we feel determined to open tomorrow. As always please keep an eye on the Cumbria county council website and listen to Lakeland Radio who will announce the closure of Langdale school if this is necessary. Following this, there is a phone cascade system in operation and all families will be phoned personally.
Even if School is open, I must remind all families to make safe and sensible decisions when travelling to school. Please only travel if it is safe.
